Baseball or bombs.

I went to an Atlanta Braves game tonight and payed $6.50 for a bag of peanuts...what on earth? How do they get away with charging that much for a bag of peanuts? All in all it was a fun experience, I got to see a couple homeruns, bought a hot dog, blah blah American past time, blah blah. It's a mode of distraction really...forgive me, some nights I would rather enjoy a baseball game than read about more children being bombed in the Middle East, or rising gas prices, or anything else that is gracing the headlines these days. Thanks to everyong that has been coming out to the shows, they have all been great..this tour so far is amazing.

So are you saying that the war going on in the middle east isn't really that bad? Finding beauty is not that hard, it is all around us, but being positive about the state of society and the world is kind of tough, and takes some sort of effort, or delusion.

well, my life is full of things to be thankful for, but the world doesn't revolve around me and my life, and I suppose things effect me. I guess it all comes down to perspective.

That's pretty cool that you still make time to catch a baseball game with a busy tour schedule and all. Hope all is going well, and I'll most likely see you (and the rest of the band) in Boston in a week. Should be a good one fo' sho'.

glad you had fun at the game. that's an outrageous price for peanuts, though. i thought popcorn at the movies was bad!

on the topics of terrorism and war: i have to say i think it's a good thing that hearing about these things grieves you. not that experiencing grief is good, of course. but we hear so much about the bad things happening in our world that i think it's easy to become desensitized to it all.

when i was sixteen, there was a terrorist attack on a church i attended for four years. i was living somewhere else, but it was a life-altering event for me. obviously part of this was because i was dealing with personal feelings of horror, sadness, and anger. but another part was that it was the first time in a long time that i saw "headline news" so clearly. people were dying. and when what was once black and white to me became flesh and blood instead, it was a violent jolt. but a necessary one-- because every time a murder is reported, it's a matter of flesh and blood. we reduce people to numbers and catchy headlines, and it's wrong.

this was a very long winded way of saying that i think having a sensitivity to the destruction of human life is a good thing. so even though it's hard, i'd say it's important. that said, i'm all for having fun where it can be had. hope the rest of the tour is awesome.

Hey Zach....you complain about paying $6.50 for a bag of peanuts?
When I went to your shows in Japan, the venues charge us 500yen (approx.$5) for a 500mL bottle of water, which you could usually get it at 100yen at a supermarket or vending machines. Those show organizers are ripping us off!!! The end.

We have to buy a drink ticket (500yen) as you enter the venue, whether or not you want a drink. It's ridiculous.
